If you're thinking about taking a trip down to Shreveport from your central Toronto homes and aren't sure when you should do it, you might want to consider taking it in the first week of May. Why? That's when Shreveport hosts their annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta. What better excuse for a vacation from your lead shot wholesale sales job than a Fiesta?

Cinco de Mayo, translated from Spanish into English, means the fifth of May. So, as you can guess, if you didn't already know, is that Cinco de Mayo is celebrated every 5th of May. Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that is celebrated to commemorate the victory of the Mexican army over the French in what has been dubbed over time as the 'Battle of Puebla,' which took place on the 5th of May in 1862.

It's not the most important holiday celebrated in Mexico or by Mexicans, that would belong to Grito de Dolores or El Grito de la Independencia, better know to Americans as the Mexican Independence day. That is celebrated on September 16. Cinco de Mayo, still an important date, is a holiday that celebrates the Mexican heritage and shows how proud Mexicans are of their country. There are plenty of Mexicans transplanted all over America and tons of American cities go out of there way to celebrate Cinco de Maya.

Shreveport is one of those cities. For the past 13 years it has hosted their own Cinco de Mayo festival known as the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta. Put on by the CINCO DE MAYO FIESTA, INC., the Fiesta helps celebrate the holiday, raise awareness of the culture of Mexico, and foster a higher sense of community involvement. It's also a reason to call in sick from your pneumatic conveying job if you don't get it off.

The Cinco de Mayo Fiesta in Shreveport takes place at the Festival Plaza which is located in downtown Shreveport. There are a lot of events and activities that you and the whole family can take part in. Such as the Media Kick-Off Party, the Chihuahua Challenge, Mariachi, Luz de Luna dancing, fencing demonstrations and aerobics classes, just to name a few. If you find yourself working away putting together suction diffusers, find away to get off work and make your way down to the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta. Or at least come down during your work break. No one would fault you for showing up late to work at the automatic banding machine plant if you came back with some enchiladas for everybody!
